Type-0 takes place in the world of Orience. Rubrum, Milites, Anaze and Kogai are the four countries in this world and each one holds a crystal.

Each country has a "Peristylium", which manages a crystal called Suzaku, Byakko, Seiryuu and Genbu.

Suzaku is the only magic school, which is located in the country of Rubrum. The other Peristyliums have different forms. A committee of eight in Rebrum Peristylium is headed up by the school principal, who also governs Rebrum.

Rebrum and Milites are the focus in the beginning of the story as Milites invades Rebrum. The game's 12 main characters are in Class Zero as Rebrum Peristylium.

The other two countries remain a mystery for the time being.

In Type-0, there is a distant mythology involving four lights that appeared in the world long ago. People gathered at these lights and formed four Peristyliums. The mythology tells of a savior called "Agito" appearing in the world after the coming of a great calamity called "Finis." In modern times, as the four countries descend into war, people hope for the appearance of the Agito as mentioned in the ancient mythology. The students as Suzaku, including Class 0, all hope to become the Agito.

The four countries all have unique items and colors that represent them. For Suzaku, one is likely to see the color red and gears. Gears can be seen all over the place, from flag design to architecture and even seen in the clothing warn by the characters.

BATTLE

You form parties of three from the Class Zero students. You control one character at a time and can switch off to the other two. If one character dies, a reserve comes into battle. You keep fighting until all students are dead.

During Ad-hoc play, students can be controlled by other players however these cooperative play sessions only last for a brief period.

The battle screen shows HP and MP gauges on the lower left of the character the player controls and the AI's HP and MP are on the right. The little icon to the right are the number of reserves.

The command palette to the lower right shows the list of moves characters can use. For Queen, it shows Cross (circle), Mythril Saber (triangle), Thunder MW (square) and Raise (x). For Ace, his command palette shows Illusion (circle), Card (triangle), Fire ST (square) and Wall (x).

Also shown above the command gauge is an "ability gauge" and summon command. The upper right is a map the surroundings.

In one battle screenshot, we see enemies surrendering. If you defeat the commander, enemies will either surrender or flee. Killing the commander is one approach to avoiding unnecessary battles. Some commanders may be powerful and difficult to kill. You may need to decide on an appropriate order when killing the enemies in battle.

Finally. Special Arts and Magic are other parts of Type-0's battle system. Characters have special weapons and gain unique abilities when using certain weapons. All characters can use magic and can be customized to change its properties.


CHARACTERS

The Class Zero students all have numbers.

No.01: Ace
Famitsu speculates here(most likely SE giving hints) that Ace is may be the main character of Class Zero.

No.09: Nine
Nine is straight forward and wants things to be clearly black and white. Queen considers him to be stupid. His unrefined words bring courage to the students of Class Zero as they head out to battle.

No.12: Queen
Her glasses are her trademark. She's the leader type, and her clean and good looks and high intelligence make her fitting of the Queen name. She's calm and quiet. However, she will not allow dishonest acts and will say harsh things to her allies. At the same time, she's not cold blooded. She feels pain when her allies are hurt.

Kura Same
He is the teacher of Class Zero. He was once called "The Death God of the Ice Blade" during his active years as a student. There is a Tonberry that wears a robe similar to the Class Zero students and carries a lantern and a sword that stands twice its height. Famitsu speculates that he may be under Kura Same's instruction.


OTHER OBSERVATIONS

Queen's "Cross" special arts move shows her sticking her sword up and a giant cross-shaped light shaped spell appears on the ground around her.

Characters say things as they fight.
